Graduation Speeches
Thank you for your interest in giving a commencement speech at graduation ceremonies for the class of 2026. We can’t wait to hear what you have to say!
When delivered orally, speeches should be 3-5 minutes in length, and should be directed to the audience that will be present at graduation: your peers, teachers and staff members, and community members gathered to celebrate commencement.
A digital written draft of your speech is due to me no later than Monday, May 18th by 3:00PM. Do this through Google Docs, and make sure your paper allows for Comment privileges. Carefully read the guidelines on the next page before submitting your draft. My email address for sharing is jessica.klingback@mead354.org.
A 3-5 minute speech is generally 400 - 750 words when written. Please be sure your draft is within that general framework. Speeches that are significantly longer will not be considered.
From the drafts submitted, no more than 8 students will get the chance to audition in front of a panel of judges made up of MSHS staff members. Students will be notified no later than Thursday, May 21st if they’ve earned an audition slot.
Auditions are in the mornings on May 28th and 29th. Please note, the work you do on this draft really does count, so it would be a good idea to have a friend, parent, or teacher look at your draft before submission. The more editing you can do in advance the better.
If you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
Best of luck,
Ms. Klingback
